Coastal Snippets October 2022

Spring is an exciting time for gardeners. We migrate from our fireplaces, throw off our winter coats and marvel in the potential and possibilities that this season brings. While welcome, spring is also proving to be a somewhat challenging time this y

ear. Like most of Eastern Australia, the Mornington Peninsula is experiencing a lot of rainfall this year. August had 50% more rainfall than average and while September was comparatively mild, October has decided to revert to heavy rainfall with predictions of October's average rainfall being recorded in the next few days alone. We gardeners appreciate rain, but this year’s rain events have really hampered our team. While it doesn’t affect many gardening jobs, it does have a large impact on mowing. Our mowers are getting bogged on a weekly basis. I won’t name names, but one of our very experienced team members (whose name starts in R and ends in T) currently holds the record for getting paddock bogged 3 times in 1 week. It is soggy out there! The rain also makes weed eradication difficult. It is ineffectual to weed spray paths and driveways as it just gets washed away. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Our plants love all this rain and it is going to result in the most glorious growth and garden displays for late spring and summer. We have plans in place and once this rainfall settles and we start experiencing some dry weather we are poised to take action on them. Rob is confident that your properties are going to look absolutely amazing when the warm weather and holiday season arrives October to do list: Wait for the rain to stop
