COASTAL SNIPpets June 2023

Yes, it is really cold already and winter has only just begun, but on a positive note, things are going to get brighter from here on. We have passed the Winter solstice and the shortest day of the year and so the days are going to get longer and therefore things will be brighter – literally.

Winter is a time when we set the Coastal team to a more foundational maintenance schedule. This means winding back a little and pushing the mowing to a 3 to 4 week rotation. We are very cognisant of the need to retain a certain level of garden management while ensuring that properties are not being over serviced when it is not necessary in these cold months.

Like every good balancing act, we are also looking forward towards spring and spring preparation. If the first half of 2023 is anything to go by, spring will be here on Friday (wasn’t it just March last week??) Okay, it’s a little further away than that, but it will be here before we know it and your garden has requirements that will need to be met well before then. This includes a lot of winter pruning, weed suppression and mulching.

Timing is everything when it comes to your garden, and this could apply to scheduling too. While the team is in the winter holding pattern, it could be an ideal time to have any additional jobs not usually on your gardening schedule attended to. Please contact us if that applies to your property and we can book it in the upcoming weeks.

June to do list: Bundle up, batten down the hatches and stock the pantry with a lovely Mornington peninsula red wine, hot chocolate and marshmallows. Take advantage of the need to stay in on cold and rainy days, draw inspiration from our garden plants and recharge our batteries with a little winter hibernation.
